‘Akyem’ Akufo-Addo has insulted all Ewes in Ghana – Sammy Gyamfi

When many thought the controversy over President Akufo-Addo’s Aflao comment is going down, National Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress Sammy Gyamfi has provided another angle to the saga accusing Akufo-Addo of disrespecting people of Ewe extraction.

This is after President Akufo-Addo asked the Paramount Chief of the Aflao Traditional Area to “complete” the abandoned E-block community day senior high school in the area himself if he is frustrated about the delay.

On Wednesday, October 20, Torgbui Adzonu-Gaga Amenya Fiti V gave government a four-month ultimatum to finish the building for use. The school, built during the Mahama administration is almost 90 per cent complete. It has some 26 classrooms and five departments, including a science block but has stalled since 2016.

But Sammy Gyamfi believes the comment of Akufo-Addo is not only against the Chief, but all Ewes describing the President’s comment as “reprehensible, cocky, cheeky and condemnable”.

“It is an insult to all People of Ewe extraction. I am not sure he can look into the eyes of his own Chief, the Okyehene, a man I respect so much and say this to him. Can he same to Otumfuo?” Sammy Gyamfi asked.

“What crime has the Chief committed to express his frustration. Cheeky, cocky response! Reprehensible and condemnable. Do we pay our revenue to Togbui Fiti? When revenue is collected at Aflao does it go to Togbui Fiti? he asked further enraged by the comments.

He urged all Ewes and people and Chiefs of Volta Region not to forgive Akufo-Addo for his remarks.
