Cwesi Oteng roasted for appealing to Ghanaians to embrace E-Levy

Gospel singer and ardent supporter of President Nana Akufo-Addo has incurred the wrath of some Ghanaians on social media for supporting the electronic transactions levy (E-Levy) and urging Ghanaians to pay the levy so as to enable Government raise funds for development.

Cwesi Oteng had in an interview with blogger Zionfelix revealed that he fully supported the E-Levy and would like that persons opposed to it change their minds to enable Government get revenue for development.

“Me, if they deduct money on my MOMO transactions, it makes me happy because I feel like I am contributing something…

“If money doesn’t leave, how does money come to you, so I feel like I am contributing something to the country and it has nothing to do with politics,” Cwesi Oteng had said, asking that Ghanaians give the Government a try by paying the levy.

But many on social media have not taken kindly to his support for and suggestion that they pay the E-Levy. While some are criticizing him for his opinion, others have resorted to outright insults.

Government is struggling to introduce the e-levy which has faced opposition from the Minority in Parliament.

The Ghanaian populace have complained bitterly about the levy and believe it will bring untold hardship on the people of Ghana.

Government intends to lay it Parliament when Parliament begins sitting for the year.
