Zuarungu: Police launch anti-robbery operation to arrest cop killers

The Ghana Police Administration says it has launched a special anti-robbery operation to arrest three robbery suspects who shot and killed two police officers at Zuarungu in the Upper East Region.

In a press release, the Police said the task force is deployed to assist the Upper East Regional Police Command in combating robbery and other violent crimes in the region.

“We are assuring the families of the two deceased Police officers and the general public that we are determined to get these suspected robbers arrested to face justice for their callous act,” the Ghana Police Service Director General in charge of Public Affairs, ACP Kwesi Ofori assured.

Back ground  

The Ghana Police Administration has placed a GH¢50,000 bounty on the heads of the suspected armed robbers who shot and killed two police officers at Zuarungu in the Upper East Region.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare made the disclosure during his visit to the area Thursday.

Two Police officers were shot dead in gun battle with a suspected robber in Zuarungu in the Upper East region.

A Police situation report said: “On 15/11/2021 at about 2020 hours, there was a distress call to the Zuarungu District Command that there was an ongoing robbery at Zuarungu Market (.) Control was informed and whiles men were being mobilized to respond to the robbery, there was another distress call that two (2) policemen were shot dead (.)

“A team of Police officers led by the Bolgatanga Divisional Commander C/Supt/Dela Dzansi and the Regional Crime Officer Supt/Reuben Dugah proceeded to the scene of crime and saw a burnt Service Motorbike No. GP 2311 packed by the road in front of a provision shop (.) Spot investigations disclosed that No. 56205 G/Const. Emmanuel Akowuah and No.57658 G/Const. Adam Suley with Service Rifle No. 79209 with 20 rounds of ammunitions were on the aforesaid Service Motorbike for their routine patrols and unexpectedly appeared at the robbery scene and they were fired at”.
