The Electoral Commission of Ghana has gazetted most of the 2020 Parliamentary Results to make the results legitimately recognized by the law so that any Parliamentary Candidate who want to seek clarifications or challenged the results in court can do so.
The Electoral Commission has been accused of producing multiples of figures and committing mistakes in almost every Press Release they have furnished the general public with. Right from the declaration of the Presidential results on Wednesday 9th December 2020 up till now.
In their most recent post, they accidentally used ‘275 Districts’ instead of ‘275 Constituencies’. In some few hours ago, Ghanaian broadcast Journalist, news Editor, Anchor and programme Host, Israel Laryea used his official Facebook to show that, the Electoral Commission has again committed mistakes in their gazetting of the Parliamentary results.
Looking at the gazetted Parliamentary results below, the Electoral Commission printer ticked the losing candidates rather than the winning candidates. This mistakes which are being displayed continually by the EC makes some Ghanaians to believe that, the whole electoral process need to be audited.
The credibility of the current Electoral Commission led by Mrs. Jean Mensah is seriously undermined by most Ghanaians are they described their mistakes as unprecedented since Ghana’s Fourth Republic. According to Israel Laryea, he identified these mistakes in about 18 constituencies gazetted documents.
He admitted that, we all make mistakes. But to me, these are legal documents that, losing Parliamentary candidates are going to use in the court of law and must be properly crosschecked before publishing it. This is sensitive job which does not call for rush work.
