AUDIO: Police didn’t beat us – Students in Kumasi Girls SHS riot vindicate police

Students of Kumasi Girls Senior High School (SHS) have collaborated denials by the Police administration that personnel deployed to maintain peace and order in the school during a protest on Monday evening assaulted them

According to students at the school who spoke on Kumasi-based Nhyira FM monitored by, police are not responsible for such an unfortunate incident claiming it was the military personnel rather who assaulted them

“While police were persuading to stop demonstrating, the military from nowhere raided our dormitories and started beating us mercilessly.  The police did not assault us. We were beaten by the military rather”, some victims narrated their ordeal on live radio

Some students had earlier alleged that they were beaten by joint police and military team deployed to the school to calm rampaging students on campus on Monday evening after they were denied mid-term break.

“We know we didn’t do well by destroying veronica buckets in the school and other properties, but the military school know we are ladies and they should have handled us with care”, the students told host, Nana Jantuah

Acting Regional Police Commander, DCOP David Agyemang Adjem in a press statement refuted claims that the security personnel used force to calm the students.
