Commissioner Of Police Responds To Rumors That Amputee Mary Daniel Is In Their Custody

The commissioner of Police has responded to rumors going viral on social media that the amputee sachet water seller Mary Daniels is in the custody.

A few weeks ago, the news about amputated single mother and sachet water seller Mary Daniel in Oshodi went viral on social media which caught the attention of many who showed compassion and tried to help her.

It would be recalled that Mary Daniel shared her story when she got the attention of many Nigerians which included one of the rich men in Nigeria, she recounted how she lost her parents in a motor accident and also lost her leg in the process. After she shared her story, many Nigerians showed sympathy. Billionaire Mark Chunendu Ijeoma raised about N14 million in a few days.

However, in the new development, it has been disclosed that Mary Daniel lied to gain public sympathy. According to TheNation, Daniel was exposed after those who staged her story started threatening that they would reveal the truth unless she gave them their share of the money.

The Commissioner of police Hakeem Odumosu said, “There were irregularities and lies in the account of her life she gave. It was discovered that contrary to her claim that her parents died during an accident that left her amputated, it was discovered that her father is very much alive and that she was amputated from birth.”

“It was also discovered that her presence in Oshodi was staged. Those working with her played on the intelligence of Nigerians to get donations for her. It came to light when the people started threatening her. She promised some N500,000 others different amounts and was planning to return to her home state when the information leaked.”

Reacting to the rumors that Mary Daniel is in their custody, the commission of police Hakeem said, “The police were there but she was not handed over to us. She was handed over to the social welfare”.
