The Member of Parliament for Wenchi Constituency in the Bono Region, Alhaji Seidu Haruna has advised Ghanaians not to keep money under their mattresses.
Keeping large amounts of money in the house rather than a bank is a bad idea the Legislature said.
Savings money in a house will lose value over time because you won’t earn any interest, this according to the MP, theft or fire could wipe out your savings as we have experienced in the few weeks.
Honorable Alhaji Seidu Haruna made the call when he paid a courtesy visit to affected fire victims at Atuna II a village under Kaamu Electoral Area in the Wenchi Constituency.
One Tuonye Joshua a resident of the said village and his family suffers in a fire by losing a 4 – bedrooms thatch house and their belongings.
Properties destroys in the fire included, two bags of maize, 9 pieces of clothes, cooking utensils, students books and uniforms and a cash of ¢ 200.00 .
The MP presented to them a half bail of second hand clothing and undisclosed amount of money and also asked the affected victims to present to him the cost of properties lost in the fire .
At the time of the visit the community members have organized a communal labour to re – roofing the burnt thatch house.
Alhaji Seidu Haruna commended them for patriotic work and charged others to also cultivate the spirit of patriotism to help develop the constituency.
However, the Lawmaker attributes the habits of savings money in the house by some inhabitants due to the frustration they undergo when visiting banks.
