Residents of Mmaa-nye-na in the Assin South District of the Central Region were thrown into a state of grief and mourning when 14 years old girl Shakur Yusif, a Form 3 graduate of Abass D/A Basic School at Mmaa-Nye-Na met her death after she was bitten by a snake in an attempt to search for a network to check her school placement in the bush, the only area where the community gets access to the cellular network.
Speaking to Adom News reporter Kofi Otabil, the brother of the deceased, Munib Yusif explained that he escorted the deceased to the bush around 8 pm and moving around for the network signal and she stepped on the snake and it bites her.
However, the parents of the deceased recounted that the deceased died on arrival to the hospital due to lack of transportation, and if the community have access to telecommunication the children wouldn’t have gone to the bush for the network.
Moreover, some teachers complain that lack of network in the area is affecting teaching and learning, therefore they are appealing to the network service providers to come to their aid.
