The Minister of Food and Agriculture, has started mounting his billboards for the NPP flagbearer contest.
Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto has been one of the appointees of President Nana Akufo-Addo who has publicly declared his intention for the slot.
The election is slated for 2023, but he has hit the ground running while others such as Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen are using submarine campaign strategies to woo the ruling party’s delegates.
Few of his billboards sighted on social media platforms described the Agric Economist who was booted out of his Kwadaso Constituency of Ashanti Region where he served as Member of Parliament on the ticket of the NPP as a ” the unifier”.
Recently, he was seen in the company as some party foot soldiers who had gone to his residence dressed in his t-shirts to present him a citation.
The shirts had “Legend” written on them.
At the Asantehene’s palace in Manhyia recently, his lifelong friend, President Akufo-Addo literally mocked him saying he too wants his seat.
Although the NPP headquarters has several times warned against such early conduct, it appears not to have any strict disciplinary measures to deal with government appointees engaging in early campaigns, and how that could destabilize the government machinery.
