General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Mr. JohnsonAsiedu Nketia has hit back at Honourable Osei-Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu for accusing the Speaker of turning his office into an enclave of the NDC.
In an interview with Joy News’ Emefa Apawu on the Probe, the chief scribe expressed disappointment and wondered if the majority leader expected Speaker Bagbin to appoint his enemies to his office as advisors and staff.
In an earlier interview aired on the same TV network, Kyei-Mensah accused the Speaker of turning his office into an enclave of the NDC and said it was a bad practice of Parliamentary democracy which may collapse the house if not checked. He named about five key NDC officials who have been brought to the house to occupy positions.
According to Asiedu Nketia, the constitution governing the country gives the Speaker discretion to appoint who he wants to work with, and they must not be his enemies but people he shares ideologies with.
“Before Bagbin became Speaker, what was Parliament? Was it not an enclave of the NPP? Because the Former Speaker was NPP and all the Former MPs who should be on the Parliamentary board were all from the leadership of the NPP. “I don’t want to believe that they were members of the CPP”.
“So if they were NPP at the time and now you have another Speaker, I am wondering if Mr. Kyei-Mensah Bonsu was expecting Bagbin to appoint his opponents to advise him”.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia cited President Akuffo-Addo’s government appointees who are members of his family, friends and party as an example. Again, he described Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu’s utterances as hypocritical.
