To anyone who still doubts Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia’s popularity in the ruling New Patriotic Party, yesterday provided a clear example of just how much influence the second gentleman wields in the Danquah-Busia-Dombo Tradition.
Having been called upon to deliver a speech yesterday at the Conference, it took a combined effort from the Masters of Ceremony, ushers and event security to be able to get the excited delegates under control for the program to continue.
“Dr. Bawumia is obviously our preferred choice to take over from President Akufo-Addo”, one excited delegate boldly declared in front of the Cameras.
In fact, majority of the NPP members of Parliament deliberately escorted the second gentleman to the Heroes Park, the venue for the event, just to send a clear message to all who cared to read.
Anyone who pretends not to see the Vice President’s increasing popularity will be engaging in obvious mischief.
The only logical question at the moment is, “is the flagbearership race done and dusted for Bawumia?
The simple answer to that question is Not yet.
Especially if one has observed how fast delegates can switch positions especially when money changes hands.
The late Sir John’s admonition, “fear delegates” comes to mind and as it stands the Vice President will need to fear delegates with all that is in him especially as Alan Kyeremateng is breathing down his neck.
