Man Utd ‘holding emergency Ole Gunnar Solskjaer meeting’ with Zinedine Zidane lined up

Manchester United bosses look set to wield the axe after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side fell to another humiliating Premier League defeat, losing 4-1 to Watford at Vicarage Road

Man Utd 'holding emergency Ole Gunnar Solskjaer meeting' with Zinedine Zidane lined up 2Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly on the brink of the sack with Manchester United officials calling an emergency board meeting in the wake of their 4-1 defeat to Watford.

United were thumped by the Hornets, meaning they have picked up just four points from their last 21 available.

Solskjaer cut a resigned figure at the full-time whistle at Vicarage Road, offering up a hand in a way of apology to away fans.

Old Trafford bosses have stuck with the Norwegian, despite some horrendous results, but this latest defeat could prove the defining one with the Times reporting a meeting is planned for 7pm on Saturday night.Tellingly, it is understood that Solskjaer’s compensation is high on the agenda, after being handed a new three-year contract during the summer.

According to the report, the club’s owners the Glazers have now made contact with officials telling them to increase their offer in order to land former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane.Reports have suggested the Frenchman is reluctant to take over in the middle of the season, but there is a hope that they could agree to terms.

Speaking after yet another heavy defeat, Solskjaer said any conversations regarding his future would take place behind the scenes, but suggested his players were not in the right frame of mind prior to kick-off.

“The first half was very, very poor and we need to get the players in a better frame of mind to start the game, because in the second half they are playing like they have nothing to lose,” he told Sky Sports.Asked why the first half was so poor, he added:

“That’s human beings, I’ve got to say, you are surprised, all of these lads are top lads, top players and top professionals, when it’s not going for you and it’s going against you, it’s hard to play with that mental break.

“In the second half we came out we’ve nothing to lose and scored a fantastic goal, but it wasn’t enough.Man Utd 'holding emergency Ole Gunnar Solskjaer meeting' with Zinedine Zidane lined up 3”Pressed on where United go after their latest meek surrender, the Norwegian explained: “It’s a big challenge for everyone at the club, so that’s the big question. But that’s not for here and now.

“I’m working for and with the club – I’ve been here for 18 years – we’ve got good communication and if the club are thinking about doing something, it’s a conversation between us and them.

“The results are not good enough, we know that. We’ve gone 30 games unbeaten away from home and now we lose two on the bounce, conceding four in both of them. So something is definitely wrong.”
